Mr. Smith,
58, has over 30 years of experience in the energy and environmental sector
involving project development and financing. Since 1992, he has worked in
Latin America for several companies and public agencies where he managed
development of cogeneration and renewable projects in Mexico and South
America. He formed energy Systems International in 1994 to develop clean
fuel and renewable energy projects.
Primary efforts have been in the areas of natural gas and biomass
cogeneration, methane recovery from landfills, ethanol and bio-diesel
fuels and wind energy projects.
He was has extensive, hands-on experience in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador,
Mexico and Peru. Before focusing his efforts on Latin America, Mr. Smith
worked with the California Coastal Commission and California Energy
Commission. Thereafter, he worked as an investment advisor for domestic
international energy and infrastructure project finance.
He earned multiple degrees (Environmental Sciences and Physical Geography,
and Economics) from the University of California and California State
University. Mr. Smith speaks both Spanish and Portuguese
